Processions Banner Workshops
Invitation to take part in a Historic Project

Mid Wales Arts is one of 100 Arts organisations throughout the UK that have been asked to create a banner with their local community to commemorate the Women's Suffragette Movement. The finished banner will be carried in a procession in Cardiff to mark International Women's day, Sunday June 10th and then form part of a National touring exhibition.

This is an opportunity for women living in Mid Wales to be involved in a textile based arts community project representing the rich history of the area.

Please come along to our planning meeting at Mid Wales Arts ,Caersws on Tuesday 10th April at 10 am. We expect it will take 4 making sessions to complete the banner and dates can be agreed.

The project will be led by professional artist Loraine Morley. Materials, equipment, refreshments and coach travel to Cardiff, if you are able to take part in the procession are all provided. Please contact: office@midwalesarts.org.uk or tel: 07970671819/01686 688369 asap

Pottery And Woodburning Kiln Weekends: Various Dates
This is an exciting new opportunity for you to understand how a wood burning kiln works and make your own work to fire in it. Taught by potter Carine Van Gestel.

This is a two day course and will ideally entail a second weekend so that your work can dry and be ready to fire. We will start the day by inspecting, bricking up and igniting a packed kiln, which will be alight for approx 12 hours. While we are firing you will be able to use hand building techniques or a wheel to experiment and then make your own final piece. You will be encouraged to use suitable slip and glazes to decorate your work. We will take turns to keep the fire burning during the day.
If you are able to stay until 10 pm on Saturday you will have observed the complete process of operating a wood burning kiln.
Hopefully you will book a second weekend when you can fire your own work as well as making further pieces.
Cost for the weekend: £120 includes all materials and firing. Coffee & Tea throughout the day. Great accommodation and healthy food available at the centre. To book contact: info@midwalesarts.org.uk 07970671819/01686 688369

Drawing From Memory..a Workshop With Karl Sylvester
Karl Sylvester has designed a drawing workshop that will focus on drawing from memory. You will begin by making a list of observations, emotional and physical, recalled from waking and preparing to leave the house that morning, and these will be developed as ink drawings. You will be restricted to a basic drawing tool (supplied)... You will begin by making a list of observations and thoughts, these will be developed as ink drawings focusing on your recollections of emotional and physical experiences. You will be restricted to basic drawing tools(supplied) to encourage focusing on expression. How much of what we do and what we see is really absorbed and retained? Can drawing improve this? The aim of the workshop is to emphasize the value of memory as a route to creative composition and an emotional response to subject and to loosen/broaden your approach. The afternoon will be used to produce a more complex figurative composition developed from memory of a recent event, We will look at artists such as Rembrandt and Daumier who have used drawing effectively to express figurative ideas. These could be developed in materials preferred by students.
Workshop £50 restricted to a maximum of 8 participants.
Materials provided but bring along your preferred tools and media.
Contact: info@midwalesarts.org.uk tel:01686 688369 text: 07970671819 to book your place.
